Longmont Public Safety is hosting their first Coffee with a Cop event on Sunday, August 12 from 1-3 p.m. at Ziggi's Coffee located at 1139 Francis St.

"Coffee With A Cop will be an "open forum" type event. It will not be structured or scripted as we want the interactions between officers and the citizens to be relaxed, casual and genuine. This event is designed to give the community the opportunity to get to know us better. We do hope to provide information on how we can work together to make Longmont an even safer community," says Longmont Master Police Officer David Bonday.

The event will host ten officers including Longmont Public Safety Chief Mike Butler and Master Police Officer David Bonday.

"Being able to build relationships with the people in our community is a vital part of not only our effectiveness as police officers, but it also helps build trust.  People see police officers every day driving around the city and sometimes forget how important it is to all of us to have good relationships with our community. Being able to meet and talk with community members one on one, face to face, helps build these relationships and also helps provide the community with a better understanding of what we do every day. This relationship building also provides the community the opportunity to learn about who we are, not only as a police officer, but as a person," states Bonday.

Kathryn Bleeker, director of marketing for Ziggi's Coffee, stated that Ziggi's Coffee feels strongly about building community over a cup of coffee and is excited that Longmont Public Safety asked them to host the first Coffee with A Cop event in Longmont.

Longmont Public Safety plans to host several more Coffee with A Cop events throughout the city throughout the upcoming year. "We hope people will take the time to come out and meet their local Longmont officers and spend some time getting to know the people behind the badge."

Coffee with A Cop is a national campaign that was launched in Hawthorne, California in 2011, as a way to interact better with the citizens of Hawthorne. For more information on the Coffee with A Cop national campaign visit their website.
