The City of Longmont announces that Colorado Avenue at South Pratt Parkway reopens, today, Friday, August 17.

While the intersection has reopened, it is still in the construction zone and drivers are reminded to "use caution when in the area," states a press release.

The South Pratt Parkway Bridge was built in the 1970s and was deemed to narrow for modern traffic volumes. The old bridge has been demolished and construction on the east side of the new bridge has begun. "Caissons, which are the foundation for the bridge, will be poured beginning next week," states a press release.

The press release also notifies the public that there are several bumps throughout the new section of the bridge, all of which will be leveled out during the final finishing of the bridge surface later this year. Signs mark the locations of the bumps.

Boulder County Comprehensive Plan Open House on August 20

Boulder County is hosting an open house to discuss the Boulder County Comprehensive Plan (BCCP) on Monday, August 20, at 6 p.m. at St. Vrain Community Hub, 515 Coffman St., Longmont.

Spanish interpretation is available for this event.

The open house will, "kick-off the public process and provide an opportunity for public input and feedback on how to bolster existing strategies in the BCCP that support health, as well as identify new ways to improve health," states a Boulder County press release.

According to the press release:

The BCCP is the County’s primary policy document to guide land use decisions in the community. Adding a chapter focused on public health will be a new addition to the BCCP and reflects Boulder County’s commitment to health for all.

Some ideas we’ve heard so far include making sure:

Healthcare is easy to access, especially in rural areas.
Mental health services are easy to access.
Public transportation is available in rural and mountain communities.
Green, open spaces are accessible to everyone to promote positive mental and physical health.
Marijuana and alcohol sales are not near places where youth gather.
Zoning allows for and protects affordable housing.
Drinking water is palatable and safe.

Ziggi's Coffee Offers All School Personnel Free Coffee

On August 22, all Colorado Ziggi's Coffee locations will offer all school personnel free coffee. One free 16 oz. drink of choice per person will be given to all school staff who can provide a valid school employee ID or another form of school district employment. This includes teachers, bus drivers, lunch attendants and school administrators.
