Morning Brief: City of Longmont Invites Public to Serve on City Boards

The City of Longmont invites Longmont residents to serve as official advisors to the Longmont City Council.

The City of Longmont invites Longmont residents to serve as official advisors to the Longmont City Council.

"The committees serve as advisory groups helping City Council learn about and make decisions on a wide variety of issues that affect the safety, economy and quality of life of Longmont’s citizens and businesses," states a press release from the City of Longmont.

The time commitment for serving as a board member is usually "a few hours a month

preparing for and attending meetings," according to the city.

Requirements for serving on a board include being a registered voter of Longmont for at least one year and you must reside inside the Longmont city limits.

Applications can be found online or by contacting the City Clerk's office at 303-651-8649.

Boulder County Preparedness Fair

September is National Preparedness Month and Boulder County is hosting its 2018 Preparedness Fair. The fair is scheduled for Saturday, September 15 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Boulder County Fairgrounds in Barn A.

"Whether it's natural disasters or unexpected hardships in life, everyone should have the information and resources to recover from such events. The purpose of the 2018 Preparedness Fair is to build resilience by connecting and fostering social capital through linking community members to community resources," states Laurie Kalinus, AmeriCorps-Ready Corps member for the Office of Emergency Management.

Lost Hikers Found Near Button Rock Mountain

At 5:30 p.m. on September 12, 2018, a call was received by the Boulder County Communication Center concerning two Longmont hikers who claimed to be lost.

The male and female hikers reported that they were hiking on the Button Rock Trail, in the area of Button Rock Mountain.

First responders and search and rescue crews were able to locate the Longmont residents by using "the latitude and longitude from the hiker’s cell phone, to get in voice contact with them at approximately 8:15 p.m.," states a media release from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office. 

Neither hiker was injured.
