WTF Colorado Rocks the Midterms
Win The Fourth Colorado is kicking off its series of Get Out the Vote meetups this weekend. Though Longmont, like other cities of the northern Front Range, has exceptional voter turnout compared to the nation as a whole, we don’t do as well in the midterms as we do when a presidential candidate heads the ticket.
WTF Colorado is determined to change that.
Through a series of social discussion groups designed to engage younger voters who have not yet formed the habit of voting in off-year and municipal elections, WTF hopes to increase interest in critical issues at the local, state, and federal level which are decided in off-year elections. The 2018 election is particularly important, for example, because 2020 is the year of the decennial census, and the composition of the state legislature will have a lot to do with how much the census benefits Colorado.
We hope that the early meetups with turn out leaders who will hold additional meetups at different times, so that the Rock the Midterms movement continues to grow all through the 2018 election season, and spreads from Longmont throughout the towns and cities of Colorado’s Fourth Congressional District. With a dry season, unease in the agricultural sector, a shortage of labor, and stresses and strains on the immigrant community due to uncertainty around DACA registrants and more, the people of CD4 need to cultivate a unity of feeling and of purpose in this critical election year.
