Leading by Example

I commend Mayor Pro Tem, Aren Rodriguez, for conducting a civil, serious
and thorough discussion of residential metro districts during Council’s
study session on Tuesday, January 7th. This is the first time in many
months that Council has been able to discuss an important issue with
respect, decorum and the ability to actually stay on task.

Using Metro districts to finance residential developments is a very complex
issue and has the potential for abuse by developers. Longmont residents
need to do their best to understand the ramifications that may impact home
buyers in these districts.

The speakers who presented both pros and cons on this subject were given
enough time to provide much needed detailed information for those who
attended the meeting.

Mayor ProTem Rodriguez led the meeting in an even-handed way, treating
council members and the speakers very fairly, allowing everyone to have
their say without interruption.

This is what citizens expect of their elected officials. Mayor Pro Tem,
you have set a proper example regarding how a council meeting should be led.
I hope to see you in this position more often in the future.
