To the Editor of the Longmont Observer,

My name is Elora Cook and I am writing to point out the reasons we need to elect ReganSample for City Council Ward 3.

Local issues impact our lives as citizens directly, and I have been paying attention to debates and I feel it is very important to help point out significant differences between Regan and his opponent.
Both talk about work experience, their community involvement, and supporting small business. But what have they done to back it up? Regan Sample has a business and economics education. In his work, Sample has directly managed up to 50 people and led a retail store to number one in a national organization.

He has been responsible for hundreds of millions in receivables as a financial analyst. On the other hand, there is Susie and she is a 5th grade teacher. She has worked with 10 year olds, while very admirable, not the equivalent in leadership skills that Regan possesses. Regan Sample has also been an educator. He has educated clients on their investments so they can retire with dignity, he has been a tutor in college. He has worked one-on-one with children to advance their education. The difference is, he has done it as a volunteer and taken time away from his business and family to do it. Spending time doing what you love, expecting nothing in return, shows true passion and integrity.

Hidalgo-Fahring says she is a champion for small business. She doesn’t know what it means to start or build a business. She has always been an employee. Sample however, knows what it is like to start and build a small business. Regan understands the struggle of having to earn and retain each client versus being able to go to work and clock in. He understands the effort required and how the city can get in the way or get out of the way and help.
It’s clear one must love their city to run for public office, but the difference between these two candidates couldn’t be more significant. Regan Sample is a community servant. He knows economics, creating relationships and building business. He is the leader Longmont needs to have vision, find common ground and not push ideological agendas.Vote Regan Sample for City Council Ward 3, for the future of Longmont.

Sincerely,
Elora Cook
