To those voters living in Ward 1, it’s in your best interest to vote in the special election ending on Feb. 27. More importantly, your votes will also determine whether the City Council is made up of a voting block majority with lock-step points of view, or a more balanced body that will openly discuss and fairly consider all sides of an issue. For balance, I urge you to vote for Josh Goldberg.

Josh knows the issues facing Longmont because he has been enmeshed with the businesses and culture of Longmont through his work and volunteer service since he moved here. In contrast, his opponent’s experience, while laudable, is in fields and positions unrelated to Longmont city governance. Josh has been active in and exclusively committed to Longmont for over 11 years.

From hundreds of hours spent on Planning & Zoning and other groups, Josh’s positions are based on accurate information relative to Longmont, not generalized opinions. For example, the term “affordable housing” as used by the city does not include the income levels earned by teachers, police, etc. This and other issues are more complex than simple campaign proclamations. Solutions will need to be more creative and nuanced. Josh has the perfect experience and character for that.

Josh has the perspective and maturity to recognize that he doesn’t have all the answers and is willing to seek advice from experts, even those with opposing viewpoints. More importantly, he already knows who to go to.

Voters should be wary of a candidate who claims that he alone can identify the problems and has all the answers. You should ask whose experience is the most relevant. I urge you to strongly consider Josh Goldberg as the candidate who will hit the ground running and will represent everyone on the City Council.
