Walk With A Doc is an international 501(c)3 nonprofit who strives to inspire communities to engage in healthier, more active lifestyles.
On Saturday, November 10, the wellness program will take place at Flanders Park on McIntosh Lake, 2207 North Shore Dr. from 8:30-9:30 a.m.
The event will feature a short talk by health care professionals on a health topic. Additionally, these professionals will walk with participants to encourage a healthier lifestyle and to discuss health-related topics.
The walk is free and open to the public.
“One of the most effective ‘treatments’ for chronic pain—and almost any other health condition—is movement, or physical activity of any kind,” said Jay E. Valusek, M.Ed., Longmont Walk leader and chronic pain self-management specialist, who previously worked in an outpatient clinic dedicated primarily to pain management at Longmont United Hospital. “Research shows that you could gain two hours of life for every hour that you exercise regularly. That’s pretty powerful medicine.”
According to the American Heart Association, walking as little as 30 minutes a day can:
- Enhance mental health and well-being
- Improve blood pressure and blood sugar levels
- Help maintain a healthy body weight and lower the risk of obesity
- Reduce the risk of osteoporosis
