Pastor Matthew Spencer of Christ Church International interviewed Pastor Tim Johnson on the importance and value that prayer has in our city.

Pastor Tim Johnson serves at Grace Church Longmont and has for many years partnered with pastors from other churches who gather regularly to pray asking God for His will and His best for our community and our personal lives.

Pastor Tim has a true pastor's heart. Those who have talked with him or who have been impacted by his life and ministry know that he is always quick to give the glory to God, and that he always shows more sincere interest in the lives of others than in himself. Pastor Tim, you are a blessing. Thank you for your service and ministry to Longmont and the leaders of our community. God bless you!

In this interview, Pastor Tim shares three points that will motivate us to pray.

Jesus is Our Example

Pastor Tim began by sharing a great motivation and reason for us to pray by looking at the example of Jesus.

"One of the things that motivates me in prayer is looking at the example of Jesus, you say, 'Why pray?' Jesus, who we believe is God in-the-flesh, still saw the importance and value of prayer, when He was here, and He needed to communicate on a daily regular basis with His Father to get instructions...on what His Father was wanting Him to do."

Jesus serves as a great motivation and example for us to pray. This helps us understand the value of prayer.

Prayer is a Privilege

Pastor Tim then shared from Jeremiah 33:3 (ESV), "Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known."

This is one of the passages in the Bible (one of many) where God invites us to talk with Him. God invites us to pray, and what an incredible privilege that is - to talk with the One who controls everything and decides everything.

Pastor Tim said, "He has great and mighty, secret and hidden and special things that He wants to tell us, and show us and do through us. So, that's certainly a motivation for me to see the value and the importance in praying."

The Solution to Feeling Overwhelmed

Pastor Tim then reminded us of Matthew 9:37-38 (ESV) where Jesus said, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few..."

Pastor Tim pointed out that Jesus' solution wasn't to go out and begin winning all the lost, or to tell His disciples to go out and win the lost because they can "handle" or "do" this.

Jesus solution was prayer, "...therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest."

When we feel overwhelmed with the needs in our community and the lost people in our community who don't know Jesus yet, we shouldn't think that it's just up to us.

Pastor Tim explained, "Jesus' invitation is for all of us to be praying for Him to raise up more and more and more people, young people, old people, people in between, men, women...who will have that same burden for the lost out there and be willing to reach out to that harvest.

Let's Pray!

Both pastors concluded in prayer, praying that God would do great and mighty things in Longmont.

Let's pray that God would raise up laborers for Longmont! We encourage you to spend a few moments in prayer today.
