Longmont Oktoberfest 2019

Time: Sept. 20 and 21 3-10 p.m.
Location: Left Hand Brewing Foundation, 1270 Boston Ave.

For the 8th year in a row, Longmont Oktoberfest is Longmont's favorite fall gathering featuring TWO NIGHTS of Yonder Mountain Sting Band!

Buy a ticket now and support our local music scene with performances from Head for the Hills (Fort Collins), Elephant Collective Showcase (Boulder County), Bonnie & Clydes (Longmont), The Drunken Hearts (Boulder), Foxfeather Music (Longmont), The Lonesome Days (Northern CO), Francis Andthe Wolf(Longmont), Rosh & The Blind Cafe Orchestra (Boulder), and Clandestine Amigo (Longmont).

The festival will also feature 15+ local craft breweries, distilleries, and cideries as well as local food, and games for all ages. Ranked as a "Must Visit Oktoberfest" by DRAFT magazine, Longmont Oktoberfest celebrates the summer's transition to fall on September 20th and 21st at Roosevelt Park. Pull out your lederhosen and dirndls, grab a pretzel or brat, and don’t forget a pint from your favorite Longmont breweries while we support Longmont charities. Prost!

All event proceeds from Longmont Oktoberfest benefit the Longmont Humane Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection of animals, the Future Arts Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to involving youth in the arts, and the Left Hand Brewing Foundation, brewing a stronger community in Longmont and Beyond!

Regional Premiere Motherhood the Musical

Motherhood The Musical is a hilarious comedy that audiences can relate to. After all, motherhood is the same around the world. Audiences can see themselves on stage through the cast’s portrayal of common experiences all moms have. From being pregnant to succumbing to driving a minivan, from facing an empty nest to anxiously awaiting one’s first grandchild, the musical covers the entire wonderful, crazy journey of being a mom. Anyone who has ever been a parent – or HAS a parent — can relate to this show.

Longmont City Council At-Large Debate

Location: Longmont Museum, 400 Quail Rd.

The Longmont Observer is hosting a Longmont City Council At-Large debate. The debate will be held on September 21, 2019, from 3 to 4:30pm at the Longmont Museum.

Seating is available on a first-come first-served basis. The Longmont Observer will be live-streaming the debate to Facebook.

The Longmont Observer would like to thank the Longmont Museum for providing us the space to host the debate.

Longmont ArtWalk Festival - September

Location: Downtown Longmont

Come to Downtown Longmont’s vibrant Creative District where we celebrate the arts at a street festival like no other!

ART – Enjoy a diversity of artists who both exhibit and sell their creations on the street and inside our participating businesses. Experience live demonstrations up close and personal by visiting one of our Artists-in-Action.

PERFORMANCES – Kick up those heels with 2 stages of lively performers as well as several musicians entertaining inside venues all along Main Street. Take a moment to appreciate a talented busker or make a memory with a street performer.

INTERACTIVE ACTIVITIES – Everywhere you look, there are activities for kids and adults alike. Unleash your inner artist and create mini works of art to take home or contribute your personal artistic vision to group projects.

303 Outlawz Last Meet

This is the 303 Ouawz Last Summer Car Meet! With the being said it is our goal to make it the biggest show yet! If you have a car bring it out! If not bring your friends and family and enjoy the night looking at some amazing cars! We expect this to be the biggest meet yet! As always RESPECT THE SPOT! That means no reving, no burnouts, and pick up your trash. We have been lucky to keep holding meets at sonic by following these rules. We hope to see you all there!

Civil Discourse in a Volatile Time

Time: Sat. 9 a.m.- Sun. 1 p.m.
Location: Front Range Community College, 2190 Miller Dr.

The purpose of this training is to elevate the level of civil discourse in the Boulder County area in order to counteract the degradation of civility that many are experiencing on a national level. Out Boulder County is committed to helping Boulder County be a more welcoming and inclusive community and see this training as an opportunity to engage and empower community members to that end.

This free day long workshop will provide participants with opportunities to examine their own understanding of and experience with civil discourse, the impact of their identities on their experience with discourse, skills to improve communication and engage in difficult conversations, and processes for seeking help and healing from volatility. The workshop offers a balance of participant driven sharing and explorations, information provision and skill instruction, and opportunities to reflect on and practice skills.

There is an application process you must complete in order to participate. Applying for this workshop does not guarantee that you will be accepted.

Please note that if you are accepted to participate in this workshop, you are expected to be present for the entire day. This is a free event with limited space, and we ask that everyone please respect this and be fully committed.

Applicants will also have the option to apply for the Train the Trainer program. The Train the Trainer session will prepare participants to lead future Civil Discourse training sessions for the local community, with the potential to craft trainings tailored to specific groups, such as different age groups.

Catrina Painting Day!

Time: 4-6 p.m.
Location: Firehouse Art Center, 667 4th Ave

The name, Catrina Ball, refers to the Calavera Catrina – a 1910–1913 zinc etching by the Mexican printmaker, cartoon illustrator and lithographer José Guadalupe Posada.[1] She is offered as a satirical portrait of those Mexican natives who, Posada felt, were aspiring to adopt European aristocratic traditions in the pre-revolution era. La Catrina has become an icon of the Mexican Día de Muertos, or Day of the Dead.

All ages are invited to join us in celebrating Dia de Los Muertos with community painting of Catrina's for our South Gallery Exhibition and Catrina Ball event. In addition we will be making marigold paper flowers for our upcoming 7th Annual Catrina Ball & 4th Annual Gigantes Procession! The Longmont Public Library also has an opportunity to hang Catrina's during the month.

All materials for this activity are provided along with food and snacks.
