One of the booms in the thriving Longmont community is its growing music scene. The second annual Winter Walkabout on Saturday, February 1st showcases 52 performances in 17 venues all located in downtown Longmont. Times for this event are 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.

There are as many genres of music to choose from as there are venues. The lineup includes singer-songwriters, blues to the headlining act The Burroughs. The Burroughs are a nine-piece powerhouse soul band that has been shaking rooms into a frenzy over the last few years.

This many acts on one day brings music into a few alternative venues that make this event one of a kind. Absolute Vinyl will host four different performances. St. Stephen's Church will be a listening room with several singer-songwriters. St. Stephen's Church is a Main St. landmark and has been in use since 1882. The Elks Lodge Ballroom will host the headlining event. Please check the schedule for the full venue schedule.

Also, venues that have music on a weekly basis are also hosting music for this event. Rosalee’s Pizzeria will host Crick Wooder at 3 p.m. Last year's Crick Wooders performance at Rosalee’s Pizzeria had people dancing onto the sidewalk. Georgia Boys BBQ will host a youth showcase. The Speakeasy will host blues bands. 300 Suns Brewing is hosting the original music lineup.

Winter Walkabout is similar to other events as the Austin, Texas South By Southwest Festival. Events like this have proved to put cities on the musical map as important places to keep an eye on for the arts.

This is a community event bringing the public into restaurants and different venues to experience not only the music but also the food, drink, and culture of downtown Longmont.

All the venues are within several blocks of each other. Each ticket will allow the ticket holder entry into every performance. To help exposure to this extensive lineup of performers there will be a free shuttle available to each venue. Winter Walkabout is designed so someone can park their car to take a walk downtown and just wander into whatever venue seems to catch their attention.

Winter Walkabout is an opportunity to experience the arts at the listener's own pace. This a family-friendly event. For a complete Winter Walkabout schedule and venue listing please go to the events online page.
