Student Ambassadors of LSCA Introduce Themselves to Longmont City Council

Student ambassadors participating in this year's Longmont Sister Cities Association (LSCA) student exchange program introduced themselves to the Longmont community during Tuesday's Longmont City Council meeting.

In total 16 students across the St. Vrain Valley School District will be traveling to Longmont's two sister cities: eight to Chino, Japan and eight to Ciudad Guzman, Mexico.

Elaina Dwinal, Eli Haussey, Maria Salter, Sofia Joesaar, Emmett Macias, Alexia Merrill, Alexis Morris, Owen Robbins, Liam Angel, Ryan Bartusek, Jacob Dowlin, Alexia Ermish, Mia Novick, Estella Percarpio, Mercer Stauch, and Ethan Ahlstrom were chosen as student ambassadors.

"I am really excited to go to Mexico because I really want to immerse myself in the culture and the language to better understand our neighboring country," said Estella Percarpio, a sophomore at Lyons High School.

"I'm most excited to experience the culture in Mexico and I'm really excited to about the food," said Ryan Bartusek, a freshman at Longmont High School.

Elaina Dwinal, a sophomore at Eric High School, said: "there's a lot of reasons why I'm excited to go to Japan, but mainly because just experiencing another culture for my own as well as making friends that I hope to have for a very long time."

"I'm probably most excited just to experience a new culture so intimately," said Emmett Macias, who attends Longmont High School and will be traveling to Japan.

Students will travel to Ciudad Guzman, Mexico, and Chino, Japan from July 19 to July 29. Upon arriving stateside, the students will host the Japanese and Mexican ambassadors in Longmont for ten days.

"We really are grateful for council's continued support of our program and the opportunity for some of our youth to represent their community in a foreign location," said Janice Rebhan, current president of LSCA.
