Student Ambassadors From Chino, Japan, and Ciudad Guzman, Mexico, Introduce Themselves to City Council and Longmont

Fifteen student ambassadors from Longmont's Sister Cities of Guzman, Mexico and Chino, Japan formally introduced themselves to the city council and to the City of Longmont on Tuesday night.

Fifteen student ambassadors from Longmont's Sister Cities of Guzman, Mexico and Chino, Japan formally introduced themselves to the city council and to the City of Longmont on Tuesday night.

Those students are: Francisco Carrillo Cázares, Ana Ochoa Dávalos, Roberto Estrada Hernandez, Ivonne Valencia Alcaraz, Edgar Garcia de Alba Portida, Enrique De la Cruz Eustaquio, Leslie González Carlos, Emiliano Mejio, Fumi Ejiri, Fuyu Ohara, Honoka Ito, Kagura Moriya, Naoto Iimori, Rina Hoshina, and Sora Ozawa.

The students stayed with their respective Longmont families as part of the Longmont Sister Cities Association exchange program. They will return home on Thursday, August 9, 2018.

"Thank you for letting me stay with you for ten days. I had a lot of fun during the ten days. I love Longmont. Thank you," said Sora Ozawa, a 14 year-old student from Chino, Japan.

"I thank both the committee of sister cities and all the people who have supported us to participate in this great experience," said Roberto Estrada Hernandez, a 15 year-old student from Ciudad Guzmán, Mexico.

Janice Rebhan, current president of the LSCA, stated that during the exchange, students visited "Crackpots Pottery, High Altitude Archery, the Longmont Museum and Cultural Center, they danced at the senior center, they participated in a work project at a Longmont summer camp, they were in the Boulder County Fair, they went to Centennial Lanes, and Sandstone Ranch today [Tuesday]."

"They will visit Sunset Pool tomorrow [Wednesday] and they also had a lock-in last night at the Longmont Rec Center," Rebhan continued. "In addition, they also visited Rocky Mountain National Park, the Denver capital, the Denver Nature and Science Museum, and of course Water World."

Rebhan also introduced the delegation of Chino, Japan and Ciudad Guzmán, Mexico

"Before leaving Japan, we were afraid that they [students] will not be able to make it and overcome their hardships and language barriers," said Masahiro Ohara, a chaperone for the Japanese students from Chino, Japan.

"However, thanks to the Longmont people, now they have a big smile and they are very happy and they have enjoyed their stay in Longmont."

"I want to thank the City of Longmont and the Longmont Sister Cities for all the support and welcoming us with open arms," said Martha Lao Hernández, a chaperone for the Mexican student ambassadors.

"Thank you to the families for the wonderful hospitality and wonderful experience."
