Pastor Matthew Spencer sat down with Kathy Roberts, executive director of Life Choices Pregnancy Medical Center in Longmont, to discuss the importance of prayer. Kathy began by quoting 1 Timothy 2:1-4. This verse points out the urgency of prayer, and that we are to pray for all people and for those in authority over us. Kathy then said, “Prayer is urgent...We really need prayer. It is the power that changes everything for us.”

We Are All Captives to Sin

Kathy continued, "...That is really the goal, is that all men, and women, and the world to be saved and to know the love of Christ...to know God is to know what love is, and to know God is to know what freedom is...Christ came to set captives free." She explained that, “...there are so many in the world that are craving love, they're craving deliverance from whatever is holding them captive,” like shame and guilt. Prayer is important so that people can know Jesus so they can be free from the things that hold them captive.

Free From Bondage

Pastor Matthew reiterated that prayer is urgent. For some people, they are in bondage and, "...they need the freedom of Christ now." Matthew said. The Scripture says that Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil. “There are so many different kinds of bondages.” We become slaves to sin. Just as a slave doesn't get to choose his purpose, so Satan has chosen that bondage for each person. It's important for us not to judge people for that very reason. But, "God wants to free them through Christ", Matthew said.

Abundant Life

Kathy also said, "Christ has come to give us life and it [the Scripture] says life more abundantly, and He’s come to set captives free...we can all say that we all have a testimony that we were sinners, and that we continue to sin, but yet the love of Christ helps us to grow." The power of prayer positions us for abundant life.

Pastor Matthew said, “That is the only way we can see spiritually is to put on our spiritual glasses which is the Word of God. Spiritual things are only discerned spiritually.”

Let Us Pray

The two concluded the discussion with prayer citing that God has an everlasting love for everyone, even those who do not know Him. Kathy asked in prayer that, “[God] would draw those near to You that do not know You. And that You would make those that know You closer to You.”
