The Longmont Museum is kicking off their Views & Brews film series Thursday, May 17, 2018 with a classic film and a very special guest appearance.
The classic film: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
The special guest: Denise Nickerson.
Nickerson, who now lives in Aurora, played gum-chewing Violet Beauregarde in the 1971 film and will be present for a Q&A and book signings after the film.
"She'll be answering questions such as what it was like to work with Gene Wilder and be part of the film," said Joan Harrold, marketing and development manager for the Longmont Museum.
The film series will run on Thursday nights until June 14, 2018 and will feature other classic movies including The Muppet Movie, The Sandlot, The Never Ending Story, and Hook.
Movies will still be paired with a select cocktail; Willy Wonka will be paired with two cocktails: a "Scrumdiddlyumptious”, consisting of chocolate liquor and cream, and a "Violet", made with crème de cassis, blue curacao and champagne.
Also new to this year's film series is the addition of movie trivia before each film, says Harrold.
"That's going to be starting at 6 every night when there is a movie and it's free with your movie ticket and there'll be prizes including free tickets for upcoming movies"
Trivia will begin at 6 pm; the films will still start at 7:15 pm.

Longmont Real Estate Stats for April 2018
The average price of single family and attached homes in Longmont continues to rise. Only four single family homes and seven attached homes sold in the month of April for less than $300,000.
The Boulder County Plains area's Year-to-Date sales exceed last year by 8.4%. "The lowest sale in this area last month was $363,000 and it had 11 sales for over $1 million. The highest sale was a $3.5 million spread that was only on the market for 10 days," states Kyle Snyder, account executive for First American Title Insurance Company.
This month's graph shows inventory updated from two years ago. In 2007, there were nearly 900 listings in July. Currently, there are only 236 listings, of those, 135 are under contract and 27 are unbuilt new construction. This leaves 74 active resale homes on the market. Demand exceeds availability when taking into account that 84 homes sold last month.
Sustainable Resilient Longmont to hold Longmont Renewable Energy Fair Event to Encourage Moving to a Fossil Free Future

This Saturday, May 19, 12-4 p.m., Sustainable Resilient Longmont (SRL) will hold the Longmont Renewable Energy Fair at the Roosevelt Park Pavilion in downtown Longmont.
This free, community event will feature presentations and information from the City of Longmont Sustainability Office, Longmont Power & Communications, the Boulder County Sustainability Office, the Platte River Power Authority, Longmont Mayor Brian Bagley and Councilmember Marcia Martin. With food trucks, a beer garden, live music, a kids arts & crafts table, and booths from local organizations working on renewable energy.
This event is a celebration of the Ready for 100 campaign, which is designed to create excitement and conversation around how Longmont will accomplish its goal to be dependent on 100% renewable energy by 2030.
“It’s encouraging to have the support of city and county leaders as we move forward to implement Longmont’s goal of 100% renewable energy by 2030,” said SRL Vice Chair and Renewable Energy Committee Chair Karen Dike. “It’s ever more critical that we provide opportunities for individuals, homes and businesses to transition away from fossil fuels that are impeding positive progress to reduce the harmful effects of climate change.”
“We must keep the drumbeat going if we want to achieve the city’s goal of 100% renewable by 2030. None of this will happen overnight. Market forces are now reducing the cost of battery storage while price reductions in wind and solar energy are combining to help protect the planet. Now that it’s literally cheaper and more economical to power the grid with renewables, we’re going to start seeing real change occur,” added SRL Board Chair Abby Driscoll added.
