9-1-1 is for real emergencies, for non-emergency calls use 303.651.8501.

According to the City of Longmont website, the following is the call handling protocol that the police department uses for firework complaints:

"Citizens may call the Longmont Emergency Communications Center at 303.651.8501 to report complaints about fireworks. The caller may choose to remain anonymous or be identified in the course of the complaint. Anonymous calls will be aired to police units in the field, and if a unit is available it will respond to the area of the complaint. If the caller can identify the responsible person(s) for illegal fireworks use and is willing to pursue enforcement action as a witness, then an officer will be assigned the call. When a police officer arrives on site and confirms the misuse of fireworks or use of illegal fireworks, the officer will take the appropriate enforcement action."

The City of Longmont website states the following concerning the legal use of fireworks in Longmont:

Firework stands and stores in Longmont sell only legal fireworks.

Legal fireworks may be used with caution on private property, not on public property. ALL FIREWORKS, INCLUDING SPARKLERS ARE ILLEGAL ON CITY STREETS, PARKS, GOLF COURSES AND OTHER PUBLIC AREAS,

May emit a "shower of sparks" maximum height of 14', but not allowed to shoot "balls of flame."

May emit smoke, crackle or whistle, but not sound a report (explosive noise)

Are labeled or packaged as 1.4G (formerly Class C), UN 0336 and/or "Safe and Sane".

 ILLEGAL "CONSUMER" FIREWORKS

Fireworks that explode or leave the ground ("shower of sparks" is not considered leaving the ground)

Are labeled or packaged as 1.3G (formerly Class B) and/or UN 0335

It is illegal to bring fireworks across the state line.

 IF YOUR FIREWORKS GO UP, THE PRICE DOES TOO!

  • All fireworks that leave the ground and explode are illegal in Longmont.
  • Fines for use of illegal fireworks are up to $500 and 90 days in jail and/or both.
  • Longmont Police and Fire will work diligently to keep neighborhoods safe and ticket those who are not in compliance.

If you are going to drink, please remember not to drive.

Things to do in Longmont on July 4th

Longmont Symphony’s annual free 4th of July Concert in the Park. Join the Longmont Symphony Orchestra at 11 am on July 4 in Thompson Park, 4th Avenue at Bross Street, for a free concert and Independence Day celebration. Bring your picnic and blanket, and enjoy the good company and great music.

TinkerMill Carnival Celebration: The TinkerMill will be hosting a fundraiser on July 4th. The event if from 4-10 p.m. at 1840 Delftware Pl. Food trucks, vendors, a dunk tank and many other forms of fun will be available including the City of Longmont fireworks show. The event is free to attend, however a $5 donation is suggested.

Longmont’s Fireworks Display, from Boulder County Fairgrounds. Beginning at about 9:30 pm, the sky over Longmont will explode with the brilliance of hundreds of fireworks. Fireworks take place at the Boulder County Fairgrounds located at 9595 Nelson Road.

For the best view, park at a nearby shopping center and walk to the fenced area in front of the arena or watch from anywhere within one mile of the fairgrounds. Handicap-accessible parking is available at the fairground’s south Nelson Road entrance with a handicap parking permit.

City Holiday Schedule on Wednesday 

Longmont city government observes the Independence Day holiday on Wednesday, July 4. Most City facilities will be closed. The Longmont Recreation Center and Roosevelt Pool will be open from 10 am to 4 pm. Kanemoto Pool will be open from 10 am to 7 pm, and Sunset Pool will be open from 9 to 10 am for lap swim and from 10 am to 5 pm for open swim. Wednesday and Thursday trash, recycling and composting collection will be one day later than usual.

Summer Fun for Kids at the Library

Enjoy a week of summer fun with a make-and-take craft at Maker Mondays, 2 to 4 pm on July 2. Head back to the Library on Friday, July 6, for the free Friday Family Film, “Sing.” Tickets are handed out beginning at 1:30 pm. There will not be a Live! at the Library performance this week. These programs all are held at the Library at 409 4th Avenue. Registration is not required, but children age 9 and younger must be accompanied by a dedicated caretaker.

Free Friday Fitness Classes in the Park

Mix up your workouts by taking them outside! Join Longmont Recreation & Golf Services for free classes at parks throughout the city. Classes meet near or in the parking lot, and there is no child care available. For ages 18 and older. July classes at 9 am on Fridays include Tai Chi at Willow Farm Park, 901 S.
