Written by David Jarvis: Tuesday night, Longmont City Council voted to pass the sixth appropriation for 2018. It appropriates an additional $146,168,590 in 33 funds, according to the communication.

Of the additional funds, $40,548,054 are new funds and $105,620,536 are carry-over funds, bringing the total 2018 budget to $470,069,398.

Teresa Molloy, budget manager of Longmont, presented the appropriation to Council.

The appropriation has unexpended carry-over funds from 2017, as not all projects were fully funded from the fiscal year of 2017.

Molloy said, "Even though we know we won't complete these projects in a given year, we have to budget them all up front and then carry these funds over."

For new items requiring additional appropriations, "article 9.12 of the City Charter authorizes Council to make additional appropriations during the fiscal year," as mentioned in the communication.

Below is a summary of the 2018 budgeted expenditures by fund:

Written by Macie May: Through a partnership between the Friends of the Longmont Library, local museums and local attractions, the Longmont Public Library is now offering "Discovery Passes."

"This is a program that some other libraries, including some local ones (Denver Public Library, Broomfield Library, Jeffco Libraries, and Westminster), have been piloting for quite a while. Based on the success of those programs, we decided to offer it to our patrons," says Marketing and Communications Specialist, Teresa Myers.

"These new “Discovery Passes” are a ticket to history, art, science, culture, and nature all along the Front Range, accessible with just a library card," states a press release.

Currently the following destinations have agreed to participate, although the library will continue adding to this list in the coming months:

· The Butterfly Pavilion

· The Clyfford Still Museum

· The Denver Firefighters Museum

· The Denver Museum of Nature and Science

· The Golden History Museum and Park

· The Longmont Museum

· The Molly Brown House Museum

· The Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum

· WOW! Children’s Museum

Discovery Passes must be reserved and can be done so by logging into the library's website and locating the "Reserve Your Discovery Pass" button.

"Any patron with a Longmont Library Adult Resident library card can reserve a pass at no cost," states a press release.

Patrons are reminded to review the hours and availability of the attraction before reserving the Discovery Pass due to varying schedules among the locations.

For entry at the participating venues, a printed Discovery Pass must be shown. The Library is willing to print passes for those who do not have access to a printer.

"Passes may be reserved up to 30 days in advance. One pass for each museum may be reserved once per calendar year (365 days from date of last reservation). Changes or cancellations may be made up to 24 hours in advance by calling the Library Reference Desk at 303-651-8472," states a press release.
