Will you dance with us?
The Longmont Observer has teamed up with Kakes Studio and The Wild Game for a Salsa Night. The Wild Game, located at 2251 Ken Pratt Blvd, is providing the venue for the event.
For $10 you can get a professional Salsa instruction from Mamie Kakes of Kakes Studio and entry to the dance party following the Salsa lesson. For $5 you can join the dance party.
- 6:30-7:30 p.m. - Professional instruction
- 7:30-9 p.m. - Dance party

City of Longmont Closes Recreation Facilities for Maintenance
The City of Longmont will close its recreation facilities for maintenance on systems and equipment. These closures take place every year in the late summer.
The following is a list of recreation facilities and their closure dates:
- St. Vrain Memorial Building, 700 Longs Peak Ave. - August 6-11
- Centennial Pool, 1201 Alpine St. - August 13-19
- Longmont Recreation Center, 310 Quail Rd - August 26-September 2
- Will reopen on Labor Day, Monday, September 3, with special holiday hours 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.
According to a press release by the City of Longmont, "the gymnasiums at the Longmont Recreation Center are tentatively scheduled to be closed for curtain replacement August 13-22. During this time, drop in basketball is available at the Memorial Building from 7am-2:30pm and 5-7pm Monday through Friday, August 13-17, and 7am-5pm on Saturday, August 18. Regular admission fees apply."
Some recreation facilities will either close for the season or experience schedule changes. Here is a list of those facilities:
- Roosevelt and Kanemoto Activity Pools close for the season at the end of business Sunday, August 12.
- the Beach at Union Reservoir will be open only on weekends and Labor Day starting Saturday, August 18-Monday, September 3,
- Sunset Pool closes for the season at 5 p.m., Monday, September 3

Volunteer Fair at the Library
The Longmont Public Library is hosting a volunteer fair on Saturday, August 11 from 10 a.m.-noon. Local nonprofits and volunteer groups will be in attendance to share information on ways volunteers can help in the Longmont community. No registration is necessary.
Stop by the Longmont Observer booth to discuss local news, important issues and learn about ways you can volunteer. Everyone who signs up to volunteer will receive a special gift.
