June is LGBTQ+ month and the week of June 18-23 is Longmont Pride Week.

The Longmont Public Library is celebrating by hosting their Rainbow Storytime. This story time will take place on Monday, June 18 from 6-6:30 p.m. at the library, located at 409 4th Avenue, Longmont. The event is open to families and kids of every age.

Rainbow Storytime is a part of the library's Diversity Storytime series. According to Teresa Myers, marketing and communications manager for the Longmont Public Library, the series, "started in February, with our week of stories about and by Black Americans in honor of Black History Month." The series has also featured a Braille and a bilingual Spanish story times.

"The motivation behind Diversity Storytime is simple:  to try and help every child in our community to feel represented and included in the library and in library books.  American publishing houses are behind the curve with inclusion, but our librarians do their best to seek out high quality books and stories that show children, parents, and families of all types and configurations. We want to be super intentional about “windows,” “mirrors,” and “sliding glass doors”: windows for kids to discover new and different people, mirrors to see themselves reflected, and sliding glass doors to step through into someone else’s shoes," says Myers.

She continues, "While our librarians strive to incorporate as many books, characters, and authors of diversity into our regular story times, they are not designated specifically as Diversity Storytimes.  Diversity Storytimes center on stories by or about a certain group that is frequently underrepresented in children’s literature.  Those groups may be based on race, ethnicity, religion, disability, etc.  We host these Diversity Storytimes several times a year.  It often depends on what else is happening in the community, ideas staff come up with, and ideas brought to us by community members."

For this particular story time in the Diversity Series, the Rainbow Storytime will feature, "variety of picture books centered around families and kids across the LGBTQ+ spectrum," says Myers.

Representatives from Out Boulder will be present to answer questions and provide information for interested parties.

Night of Bicycling Fun Continues at the 7th Annual G'Knight Ride

The following is a press release from Bicycle Longmont/ G'Knight Ride and is published by the Longmont Observer as a public service.

Bicycle Longmont is pleased to announce its 7th annual G'Knight Ride, Saturday, June 16th in Roosevelt Park in Longmont, Colorado. The G'Knight Ride is a self-proclaimed celebration of cycling, with a bicycle expo, cruiser bike rides, games and activities, bands, food trucks, craft beer garden and more. This year the event is expected to draw upwards of 2,000 participants.
"The G'Knight Ride is a great excuse to get out as a family, as groups of friends and spend some time on bikes," said organizer and Bicycle Longmont Boardmember Scott Conlin. "The atmosphere is fun and family-friendly and our hope is that is helps kick off the summer with people riding their bicycles more often."
The Ride features 3 bicycle cruiser ride options (not races). Rides are ¾ of a mile, 5.5, and about 12 miles long and are designed with stops for riders to have fun. Much like the Bolder Boulder, neighbors of the Ride often come out to greet cyclists with everything from cowbells to sprinklers. There is even a costume contest this year.
At Roosevelt Park, the G'Knight Ride features activities from Pedalpalooza; a handbuilt bike area, DIZZY Family Fun Center with water orbs and slides, and the Yellow Designs BMX Stunt Team with a performance at 4:30PM. This year's event will feature a FREE post Ride concert headlined by One Flew West, and supported by Cycles, and Trashcan Jackson. Leading off the event at 3PM are Clandestine Amigo Trio and Kyle Donovan. For more on event music, go to: https://gknightride.org/music-1
Local and regional food trucks will be on hand and craft brews from Oskar Blues Brewery will be available for purchase at the event from 3PM - 10PM.
About the G'Knight Ride
Originally named in honor of local firefighting pilot Gordon Knight, the G'Knight Ride has grown under support of Oskar Blues Brewery and Bicycle Longmont - both advocates of cycling. With a simple formula of Bicycles, Bands, and Beer on Fathers' Day weekend, the event has become an annual staple for rides up and down the Front Range of Colorado and beyond. The event is a fundraiser for Bicycle Longmont, the area non-profit bicycle advocacy organization that uses proceeds from the event to get more kids onto bikes and to help get more bike repair stations installed around the region. For more on Gordon Knight, go to www.N3978Y.com
Rides will start at 5PM and end by 8:30PM at Roosevelt Park and are supported by volunteer marshals, this year supplied by Longmont High School Choir, in addition to Longmont police and Longmont Emergency Unit crews. Riders of all ages can cruise through Old Town Longmont, the St Vrain & Lefthand Creek Greenways, and other Longmont neighborhoods of Southmoor Park, and Eastside Historic Neighborhood.
While out cycling, riders can stop at stations supported by the Firehouse Art Center, Shoes n Brews, Icebox Knitting, Nature's Root Spa Products, CHUBurger, Crossfit Longmont, Motherlode Café, Oskar Blues' Tasty Weasel, B. Stiff & Sons Old Fashioned Root Beer, Hotbox Roasters, Nite Ize Innovative Products, Simply Bulk Market, and more.

The following is a press release from the City of Longmont and is published by the Longmont Observer as a public service.

The City has coordinated with BNSF to perform railroad repair work in Longmont on the following weeks during the summer. BNSF will have limited construction windows to perform work on the railroad crossings, so work will be completed within the allotted construction windows.

•    Week of June 25

•    Week of July 16

BNSF anticipates being able to complete two railroad crossing repairs per a work week. There are a total of five scheduled railroad crossings (four along Atwood Street and one on 9th Avenue).
