Written by Macie May: Longmont Power and Communication (LPC) recently launched their Kids' Corner for electric education.

According to a press release from LPC, "A new online “Kids Corner” will help Longmont-area schoolchildren connect with the energy they use every day."

"Aimed at elementary-age children, the web pages include electric safety tips, information on where power comes from, a brief electric history of Longmont, and other energy basics."

“Electricity is vital to our modern world, but its role is practically invisible to most people, especially in a community like Longmont with some of the most reliable power in the nation,” LPC general manager Tom Roiniotis said. “The more aware of it you are, the smarter you are in how you use it, and it’s great to spark that interest young. Plus, there’s a lot that’s just fun to know!”

LPC also offers the opportunity for teachers and community groups to request "Hazard Hamlet" for demonstrations through the website.

"Hazard Hamlet is part of a tabletop presentation that simulates common indoor and outdoor electric hazards, with buzzers and lights used to engage students and bring the lesson home," states the press release.
