Sharon Manning and Girl Scout troop 73392 have been hosting paddle board workshops for fellow Girl Scouts and adults registered with GSCO (Girl Scouts of Colorado).

The workshops have been held at Flanders Park on the north shore of Macintosh Lake.

Troop 73392 is the only Girl Scout troop in Longmont or Boulder County to offer such workshops.

The workshops are designed to teach the girls of Troop 73392, " leadership skills as the girls run the workshops," states Manning. "The girls are also learning the skills needed to work with various age groups as this opportunity is open to girls from second grade through adults."

There is a fee charged to attend the workshops. "Money earned through these workshops is applied to the girls' travel accounts. Last year three girls went to New York City for a week.  This year three girls are in Oregon for 7 days and next year the girls hope to travel to Europe. These trips also provide a learning opportunities. Not only do the girls have an opportunity to visit new places they must do all the research and planning. For the trip to Oregon the girls researched places to stay, airline tickets, cost of rental cars, calculated gas mileage, etc.," says Manning.

"Cadette girl scouts (6th through 8th grade) can earn the paddle badge, other age groups can use the workshop towards a badge requirement or just for fun."

Popeyes Chicken Site Plan and Replat E Approved

Popeyes Chicken submitted two applications to the City of Longmont Planning and Development Services.

The first was, "site plan review for a new drive-through restaurant on the newly created parcel," as stated on the City of Longmont Active Development Log.

"This project included two separate applications: a subdivision plat and a site plan.  I processed the Popeyes Chicken site plan aspect of this project. The site plan was an administrative review and therefore there wasn’t a public hearing required associated with the site plan nor conditions placed on the site plan.  The plans have been approved and recorded," stated Project Manager Ben Ortiz.

The second application was a, "Replat request to split off a portion of the existing Western Meadows shopping center parcel. The newly created parcel would be for a new drive-through restaurant," as stated on the active development log.

According to Project Manager Libby Tart-Schoenfelder, "Western Meadows 4th Filing, Replat E was approved in March 2018 and recorded at the end of March/early April 2018. We placed a condition of approval on the Replat because the site plan was still going through a review process with Ben Ortiz. We wanted the reassurance that the Popeye’s Site Plan’s technical comments were resolved. The process of the Replat did not involve a public hearing – it was strictly administrative."

As of now there is no information on when construction will begin. The construction timeline is up to the developer not the City of Longmont.
