This week's images for Microscope Monday is of a hunk of solar grade silicon crystal. Natural fracture faces and cut and polished.

The cross-cut was polished up to 1000 grit. Not a lot to see here, it's close to pure semiconductor grade silicon. Over the area that was cut an polished only a single crystal lattice formed as such the cross-cut is uniform.

If you would like to see a larger library of SEM images for these chunks of silicon including higher magnification images come check us out on Facebook.
