On Saturday afternoon, April 28, 2018, a cleanup of Loomiller Park and Pond was held. Not only was the event held to clean up the debris in the park but it was also an opportunity for neighbors to get know each other. It turned into an amazing event that lasted 2 ½ hours – lots of people turned out, the weather was beautiful, there were drummers keeping a rhythm for everyone helping to clean up, and the Park got really clean as a result.

One energizing turn of events was that many of the people who came out were public service employees who took time on a beautiful Saturday afternoon to help beautify the park.

Several groups of people came together to aid in the clean up. Those groups included: beat police officers, Fire Rescue and the Emergency Response Team – including a fire truck from station 2, Public Safety, Parks and Recreation, Community Resources, who helped us organize and purchase supplies, disc golfers, National Honor Society students and their teacher sponsor from Longmont High and youth cadets from Civil Air Patrol.

Police and fire were there as part of a new walk-the-neighborhood engagement program, getting out to meet neighbors and be visible to the communities they serve. For more about this program, please call Public Safety at (303) 774-4440.

Last but not least, neighbors showed up, some of whom were on the Park Clean-up subcommittee, who planned this event, however, others simply wanted to help pick up debris and recyclables.

Rachel Zelaya and Carol Pranschke, hosts for this event and both of whom are residents of Loomiller and are Loomiller neighborhood group leaders, give thanks to everyone who made this event so successful.

It is inspiring to have this level of support from our city. Rachel and Carol will be working hard to get more neighbors to the next event, the 2nd annual Positivity Fest on Saturday, Aug. 11.

For anyone curious about connecting with future events for Loomiller neighbors, please email [email protected], or connect with Loomiller on social media NextDoor, and one of the neighborhood group leaders will get back to you.
