The Longmont Youth Council is an advisory board to the Longmont City Council. It is comprised of youth from the City of Longmont and from different high schools within the city.

The Youth Council's purpose is to work with the city council on issues that are important to the youth in Longmont's community.

"In order to tell the community about what we are doing, we advertise a lot," said Sam Modesitt. They print posters that have information about their projects and about Youth Council in general. As well, the Youth Council has a website that showcases their projects.

"As a council, we just want to make sure that we can help the youth in our community and we will try to get our projects out there for the community to enjoy," said Sam Modesitt.

The Youth Council is a group of high school students, whom are trying to bring awareness and action to needs and concerns within the community. One of which was through the Suicide Prevention Project the council did last year. The council also sponsored an art competition and asked anyone in middle or high school to submit a piece of art that inspired them.

Some current projects include: a beautification project by painting an landscape on an underpass in Longmont, a partnership with the OUR Center, and a project called Halloween for the Hungry.

The Youth Council plans to spend a day at the OUR Center to help in any way that is needed. May it be serving lunch to people or having everyday conversations with them.

The Halloween for the Hungry project includes collecting non-perishable foods from different neighborhoods and donating it to a local food bank. It is an annual event that the Youth Council promotes around Halloween.
