Longmont Museum hosts Colorado’s largest Day of the Dead Celebration

WHAT: In many parts of Mexico, South America, and the United States, El Día de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, is a time to honor and celebrate deceased loved ones. Community participation is essential to this holiday that is full of life, reflection, food, family and fun.

Longmont’s annual Día de los Muertos celebration is one of the Longmont Museum’s signature events and the largest Day of the Dead celebration in Colorado, attracting more than 6,000 people to the exhibit, family event and related programming. The celebration demonstrates how a diverse community can come together to share a common desire – to honor our ancestors and keep their memories alive.

WHEN: 

Opening Reception: Friday, October 136 - 9 pm, free admission

Complimentary deluxe nacho bar courtesy of Cyclhops Mexican Cantina. Cash bar.

Exhibition: October 14 – November 7, free admission

The Día de los Muertos exhibition is in the Museum’s Swan Atrium – a two-story space full of light – and showcases traditional gigantes, giant puppets made of paper mache and fabric. Altars for the dead, created by members of the community, are a central part of the exhibit.

Family Celebration: Saturday, November 4, 11 am - 3 pm, free admission

Join the fun and enjoy live music and dancing, sugar skull decorating, traditional food, community altars, paper flower making, face painting, Lady Catrina and more. Come dressed in your finest calaca (skeleton) apparel. This event alone attracts 3,000 people!
