Thursday evenings have long been special at the Longmont Museum and this October is going to be no exception.  In addition to the always popular Art & Sip sessions that offer such diverse arts as painting, jewelry making and 3-D creation, the Stewart Auditorium will be the center of a “place for culture” as described by the Auditorium Director, Justin Veach.

Justin has been at the Museum for nearly two years, and came to Longmont from managing the highly successful E-Town event center in Boulder.  Originally from Los Angeles, he continues to be excited about presenting music, art and conversation in all forms to the people of Longmont.  While many of the Thursday events relate to current exhibitions – films range from The Misfits to Cowboys and Aliens, and music from the LVDY duo to an evening of Cowboy Poetry and Song – Veach says that no subject is off-limits.

Headliners Temple Grandin and Patty Limerick will be having a conversation in December entitled At Home on the Range, and the moderator will be yet another female icon of Colorado and the American West, Laura Pritchett.  Free talks like this in the comfortable Stewart Auditorium allow for intimate listening that makes the audience think and learn about topics familiar and perhaps esoteric. Another topic to be presented will be from a speaker from NCAR about the world’s most southernmost desert, yes, the Antarctic.

This week’s Thursday music event at the Museum presents Brendan James, who is touring the country between now and Thanksgiving.  The singer/songwriter has said of his songs, "What I hope to do is calm, strengthen, and transport my listeners to a better self, and in turn maybe I get there too.”  He is described as part of the pop/folk genre but transcends even that broad description.

James has just returned from a six-month journey around the world with his young family, encompassing ten countries and many, many varied musical influences.

James has produced six albums, and a seventh is due out in the spring of 2020.  He has collaborated or toured with the likes of John Mayer, John Legend, Cat Stevens, Carly Simon, Keb Mo, and Andy Grammar, and achieved great success both in the US and overseas. You can even book him for a private show to experience that so special audience to artist connection.

Grammy-nominated arranger, producer, songwriter, and performer Paul Psarras will open for Brendan James.  It promises to be a very special evening on Thursday, 3rd October at the Museum.

So, this is a little taste of the “Junior Friday” offerings at the Longmont Museum this month.  And there will be so much more to experience and to enjoy in the weeks to come.
