The Longmont Chorale is celebrating their season finale by teaming up with the Longmont Concert Band to perform some Pop & Jazz favorites.

"It's a natural fit for both of our groups to perform pops & jazz music, and especially at the end of the season. Both of us love to perform this music in addition to the rest of our repertoire. Many groups switch to a pops format for their season finale. It's a fun way to end with lighter musical selections that our audience finds entertaining and enjoyable," states Bob Balsman, president of Longmont Chorale.

This year's Longmont Chorale season featured many impressive highlights including their October performance of Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, followed two weeks later by the Chorale’s own concert of spirituals, Comin’ for to Carry Me Home.

This season brought about the announcement of a 2020 international tour for the Longmont Chorale. “We have enough people so far that we may need to add another bus while on tour in order to fit everyone,” says Balsman.

The Chorale Singers, a smaller auditioned group, performed with the Longmont Symphony Orchestra’s chamber group in the Candlelight Concert in December. This group also sold out their first standalone concert in April called A Celtic Spring, with special guests, Beth Gadbaw and Margo Krimmel, a traditional Celtic duo.

“We're soon to announce plans for the upcoming season. At the moment, we're securing the venues, working with our Longmont Performing Arts Initiative neighbor organizations, and finalizing concert titles. We can't wait,” announces Balsman.

Although the season officially ends with this concert, the Longmont Chorale will be performing a few songs with the Longmont Symphony Orchestra in their July 4th Concert in the Park, in Thompson Park.

This year's Longmont Chorale finale will be held on Sunday, May 5, 3 p.m. at the Niwot High School Auditorium (8989 East Niwot Road, Niwot, CO). The concert will feature music from Irving Berlin, Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck, George and Ira Gershwin, The Beatles and selections from the movie "The Greatest Showman," arranged by Longmont Concert Band member Doug Rasmussen.

Tickets for In the Mood for Pops & Jazz are $17 for Adults, $15 for Seniors, 7th Grade through age 22 is $5, and Active Military is $5, and students & children 6th grade & under are free. Tickets are available at LongmontChorale.org/Tickets.
