A black bear was spotted by a dog walker in Longmont around lunch time today. The animal was high in a tree along Left Hand Creek between Hover and Sunset. Kortney Brewer posted on Nextdoor to let locals know about the animal after he called animal control. He expressed surprise at the encounter on social media.

"Certainly not what you expect to see while out walking the dog!"

The story was updated around 2 pm by other residents to say the Division of Wildlife were keeping an eye on the bear who had made his way down from the tree. Alyssa Kallal let Nextdoor users know where the bear was headed.

"It has been through several backyards in the Farm at Creekside; about 15 minutes ago it was headed over towards Caleta Trail, with animal control on the scene."

If you have questions about bears in your neighborhood, Colorado Parks and Wildlife recommend contacting your local 'Bear Aware volunteer'. They also provide a link to a website with a wealth of information about living side by side with these animals.

"Bear Aware volunteers can answer questions, offer practical advice and even make house calls. They also do educational programs and staff informational booths at events. To find a Bear Aware volunteer in your area or join or form a Bear Aware team, call your local office.

Colorado is fortunate to have Linda Masterson, author of Living with Bears: A Practical Guide to Bear Country as one of our Bear Aware Team volunteers.
