In collaboration with Citizens Climate Lobby, the Longmont Public Forum will host two Earth Day forums at the Longmont Public Library.

The first will be held on Wednesday, April 24 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. It will include a screening of the documentary The Human Element.

"It's a moving and visually rich drama as told by renowned National Geographic photographer James Balog of Chasing Ice. The film explores how humans are a force of nature that can alter the four basic elements of life - earth, air, water and fire - and how those elements can, in turn, change human life," states a press release from Longmont Public Forum.

The second event, The Science of Climate Disruption, will be held on Tuesday, April 30 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Four local scientists will discuss the latest research on the impacts of human activity on the ecosystem.

  • Dr. Pieter Tans, Senior Atmospheric Climate Chemist at NOAA & Lead Scientist at the Global Greenhouse Gas Reference Network
  • W. Tad Pfeffer, Fellow, Professor, INSTAAR & Dept. of Civil, Environmental, Architectural Engineering, CU Boulder
  • CU Professor Mark Serreze, National Snow and Ice Data Center Director; Author of Brave New Arctic: The Untold Story of the Melting North
  • Dr. Christy McCain, Associate Professor & Curator of Vertebrates, Dept of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, CU Boulder - How animals are responding to climate change

Reservations for both events is required and can be made by emailing [email protected].
