On Friday, February 9, 2018, a ribbon cutting was held in honor of Longmont's downtown being designated as a historic district.

Scott Cook, CEO of the Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce, presented Karen Bryant, Senior Planner at the City of Longmont's Planning and Development Services, and Kimberlee McKee, Executive Director at the Longmont Downtown Development Authority (LDDA), with a plaque to commemorate the event.

"This is a great testament to our downtown how much we love our downtown in this community," said Cook.

Mayor Bagley, along with Councilmember Rodriguez and former Councilmember Jeff Moore (Ward II) were also present at the event.

"What's cool about this, first of all, is its great branding having a national historic landmark designation," said Mayor Bagley, who also attended the event. "It's good for the economy, it's good for our town. And also it's good for the individual property owners."

Property owners of an eligible building in the historic district are able to apply for Colorado’s Historic Preservation Tax Credit, which can go towards restoring and maintaining the building.

"This is an assurance that our downtown will continue being downtown," stated Bagley.

The effort to get Longmont's downtown designated as a historic district began in 2012 and was listed on the National Register on August 27, 2017.
