The City of Longmont, Planning and Development Services Department, invites the residents of Longmont to provide their input on the Main St. Corridor Project.

According to the City of Longmont, the project overview states that "the Main Street Corridor Plan will look at land use, transportation, market needs, and opportunities for improvements for the Main St. corridor. The corridor extends from State Highway 66 on the north to Plateau Road on the south and generally encompasses one to three blocks on each side of Main St. The 5-mile corridor is being divided up into four distinct character areas. This plan will address the need to carry multiple transportation modes safely and efficiently on Main Street, while revitalizing the area, and creating opportunities for mixed-land use projects over time. Throughout this planning effort, the project team will work closely with the community to identify proposed land use changes and growth opportunities, while honoring the unique and historic characteristics of the corridor."

The four character areas are:

Area 1 - North Main from SH 66 to 17th Avenue

Area 2 – Mountain View from 17th Avenue to 11th Avenue

Area 3 – Downtown from 11th Avenue to St. Vrain Creek

Area 4 – South Main from St. Vrain Creek to Plateau Rd.

There are two ways for Longmont residents to participate in the planning of the Main St. Corridor project.

The first is to attend the initial community discussion on Wednesday, November 7 from 5-7 p.m. at the Longmont Museum, 400 Quail Road. The project team will begin with a presentation around 5:30 p.m. and break into interactive discussion groups following.

The other way to participate is to provide feedback via an online survey. Surveys are available in both English and Spanish. Links to the surveys are provided below.

The Longmont Planning and Development Services Department put together the survey and the community discussion to better serve the people of Longmont.

"We want to engage residents, business owners, property owners and other stakeholders in the corridor so that they can share their future vision, comments and ideas for the corridor. We want to better understand what strengths people see within the corridor and where they see room for improvement and change," states Erin Fosdick, principal planner.

It is important to Planning and Development to understand what is important to residents so they can focus their efforts accordingly.

"We’re in the initial stages of looking at existing conditions, developing goals, and looking at specific elements within each of the corridor’s four focus areas. We want to understand, and ultimately represent diverse perspectives," says Fosdick.
