At 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 18, Longmont's mayor, Brian Bagley, announced that he was officially running for the office of Mayor in the 2019 election.

Bagley called Longmont Observer Publisher, Scott Converse, to announce to the media and Longmont residents of his candidacy.

"I love Longmont and like working with the other city council members. I plan to live here for the next 30-40 years. I have been mayor for less than two years and I fear that some things might be forgotten if I don't run again," said Bagley to the Longmont Observer.

Some of the items that Bagley wants to focus on for another term, should he be elected, include:

  • Early childhood education, providing high quality education that is accessible by all social classes
  • A budding relationship with Longmont's new sister city, the North Arapaho in Wyoming
  • The redevelopment of Main St. and the development of the St. Vrain River cooridor
  • Oil and gas partnerships
  • Making sure that Longmont sees an aquatic center and a new recreation center in SW Longmont
  • The building of a convention center and a performing arts center
  • RTD made a decision to move forward on the Fast Tracks project this week instead of waiting until 2040

"There is lots to be done and it won't all be finished by November. I like to think that my voice and skill set is a benefit to promoting Longmont's interests," says Bagley.
