Since Bagley had another year left on his term as councilmember, the special election candidates will only fill the remainder of the vacated term. The seat will open again during the next municipal election.

The cost of the special election is unknown at this time, however, the last special election, which was held inĀ 2008, cost the city $49,511. Once city staff have an updated estimate, those figures will be presented to the council. Councilmember Christensen inquired among city staff about the estimated cost of this special election. The estimate she received was $80,000 to $100,000.
