On Wednesday, August 22, 2018, the St. Vrain Valley School District School Board approved both the Approval of Resolution for Lease Agreement for the APEX Home

School Program and Approval of Lease Agreement for the APEX Home School Program.

The Approval of Resolution for Lease Agreement for the APEX Home School Program states that the "Board of Education is willing to meet this future financial obligation by

irrevocably pledging a portion of its undesignated reserves in accordance with

the provisions of this Section."

The section referred to is Section 20 of Article X of the Colorado Constitution, which "prohibits the creation of financial obligations without voter approval unless such obligations are either subject to annual appropriation or are met through an irrevocable pledge of existing funds which are currently undesignated within the District’s reserves," according to school board communication.

A separate approval, the Approval of Lease Agreement for the APEX Home School Program, was necessary to allow Robert J. Smith, Board President, to sign the lease agreement.

The new home of the APEX Homeschool Enrichment Program will be located at 1351 South Sunset St., Suites A and B.

For the past eight years, the APEX program has been located in local churches. In October, 2018 the district agreed to begin searching for a permanent home for the program.

"We are excited to provide a permanent home for our APEX Homeschool Enrichment program. Over the years, we have built strong relationships with the church organizations we have been so fortunate to rent classroom space from. However, due to the expansion of their own programs, two of our three locations were no longer available to us. Due to the growth in our own enrollment, this new location will afford us the opportunity to meet our current students' needs and potentially expand to serve students who have been on our waiting list," states Diane Lauer, Ed.D, assistant superintendent of priority programs and academic support for SVVSD.
The new facility will allow for 21 new classrooms, a gym, a technology lab, a science lab, a culinary lab and art and musical performing spaces.
The new facility will undergo some construction to fit the needs of the homeschool program, however, it is expected to open its doors in August 2019 "in alignment with our district academic calendar," says Lauer.
