Treat Snack House, located at 449 Main St., will open its doors on Tuesday, April 3.

Susan Nowlin, owner, describes Treat Snack House by saying that most people believe that a, "snack has to be in the healthy bucket and a treat has to be in the bad for you, in moderation bucket. You can only have a treat at certain times. For me, I thought, why can’t your snack fit into the treat? It can! Its how its presented and if you’re using really good fresh food, that can be a treat. Your treat can still be something healthy and make you feel good."

Nowlin, her husband and two children have lived in Longmont for 14 years. When asked what inspired her to open a snack house, Nowlin remembered a time when she her children were young and busy in extracurricular activities. "Sometimes the only way to connect is over a snack and sometimes someone gets left out," due to food allergies.

Nowlin also wanted a place to connect with friends and family. I was "looking for a place to go after dinner, to continue conversation with friends and family, wanting a dessert or a good decaf and there really wasn’t a place to do that. I wanted to have this place where you can come get something made from scratch, that’s real, that satisfies your snacking needs or your after dinner snacking needs.

I always wanted to have my own business, but this vision took probably about 6 years. And I think I really just got to the point where I was really just tired of talking about it. I knew I had the support of my family and my friends, and the encouragement to do it. So I just started putting it on paper and just started mapping out what i needed to really make it happen. And we just kept going one step at a time."

Treat Snack House will be featuring a rotating menu of snacks that cover all tastes. "As much as we are able to, we create our snacks from scratch, on-site, with nothing artificial, no artificial food colors, the flavors are as real and as fresh as it can possibly be. I want to use farmers and suppliers that are local as much as possible," states Nowlin.

The snacks you will find at Treat Snack House will fall into the savory, the sweet and the crunchy. Among the food snacks, various beverages snacks, coffee, teas and mocktails will be available. There is something to satisfy everyone's snack craving. Vegan and gluten free options are also available.

It is Nowlin's goal to change the snack options periodically. She hopes to feature new items each month and pair food snacks with a mocktail or other beverage. Nowlin plans to use foods that are in season to make delicious treats, those foods will be sourced from local farms and suppliers.

Currently, Nowlin is working on finding a bakery with a "dedicated gluten free kitchen" to get prepackaged treats for her shop. She identifies that some people have severe allergies and wants to make sure that there is no contamination among the products in her shop. She truly wants her shop to be a place that everyone, no matter their dietary needs, can find something to enjoy.

Below is the menu available on opening day. Nowlin asked that we stress that she plans to change the menu periodically but that this menu, " is a good representation of our offerings."

In the future, Treat plans to have outdoor seating so patrons can enjoy the beautiful Colorado weather. With in the next year, Nowlin plans to pursue a wine and beer license.

Nowlin wants Longmont to know that Treat is, "driven to be in the community as much as we can and getting that community feedback on what we could be offering that we are not aware of."

"I want people to feel as if they have been treated when they have come here, that they have been wowed, that they have felt welcomed, that they think "Wow! I have just been treated to something special!"
