Baby Taylor weighed in at 8 pounds, 8 ounces and measured 21 inches. His arrival was expected on Dec. 28, so mom and dad said they "expected to have a Christmas baby."

The happy couple chose the name because it holds a special significance, as they were married near the Taylor River near Crested Butte.

According to UCHealth Media Relations Specialist, Kelly Tracer, "this afternoon, midwife Ana Williams, registered nurse Staci Eggen and registered nurse Becca Whitcomb presented Taylor’s proud parents with a red wagon filled with a wonderful selection of baby goodies, including stuffed animals, clothing, blankets, diapers and wipes. The wagon is a gift from birth center providers, staff and friends of the hospital."

Baby Taylor is the first of many babies to be born at UCHealth in 2019. In 2018, the hospital welcomed 683 babies.

Editorial: Macie May–Happy New Year!!!

Happy New Year everyone and welcome to 2019. Hopefully, it will be a great year for us all.

The year 2018 was a struggle for me personally, but one I am happy to have gone through. What doesn’t break you makes you stronger right? Last year my entire life changed. I divorced after 15 years of marriage and became a single mom to two autistic children. It wasn’t always a pleasant year but it did end well.

Through all of those trials, I found a new community. The small one with the Longmont Observer and a larger one in Longmont as a whole. Nowhere else would so many people have stepped up to support me while I tried to tackle so much.

Longmont’s NextLight Wireless Wifi Service To Shut Down December 31

Publisher note: This is not referencing the fiber-based NextLight internet service. It is only referencing the wireless/wifi service a handful of customers currently subscribe to.

When Clyde Ioerger got up at the December 18 Longmont City Council meeting, he was concerned that his NextLight service was being degraded by turning off the citywide wireless internet access on December 31 because it “wasn’t making enough money, it wasn’t making its way.”

His concern was that once upon a time, you could access the NextLight provided wireless/wifi service anywhere in town, and now you couldn’t. See his comments at the December 18 city council meeting below.
