City Holiday Schedule on Monday

Longmont city government observes the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday, January 21. Most City facilities are closed. The Longmont Museum and all Recreation facilities except Centennial Pool are open regular hours. Trash, recycling and composting collection will be one day later than usual throughout the week.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Celebration

Celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., from 10 am to noon on Monday, January 21, at Silver Creek High School, 4901 Nelson Road. This free event features music, videos, dancing, family-friendly activities, and speaker Dr. Almella Starks-Umoja, whose father was a key figure with Dr. King’s planning committee. Coffee with Council is This Saturday

Longmont City Council will host Coffee with Council from 9 to 10 am on Saturday, January 26, at the Longmont Senior Center, 910 Longs Peak Avenue. At this event, you can talk informally with at least two council members on any topic of your choice, and the coffee’s on us! Council Members Christensen and Rodriguez are scheduled to attend. New Year, New You January Training Special

Recreation Services’ personal trainers will inspire and encourage you to develop healthy habits and routines through the safe delivery of effective instruction, motivation and education. Take advantage of this January-only special to get bonus sessions when you purchase a personal training package: buy five sessions, get one free, buy 10 sessions, get two free. Purchase by January 31 at the Longmont Recreation Center, 310 Quail Road, or call 303-774-4752 for help finding the right trainer for your needs. Each training session is one hour.

Join the “Anime-niacs” at the Library

Beginning January 23, the Longmont Public Library is partnering with the Grey Havens Group to launch “Anime-niacs,” an anime club for those 18 and older. The club meets from 6 to 8 pm every fourth Wednesday of the month on the second floor of the library at 409 4th Avenue with a different theme or topic every month. No registration is required.

If We Can’t Reach You, We Can’t Alert You

Police and Fire can’t provide reverse 911 emergency notification on your mobile devices without your permission. This means that you need to sign up for emergency alerts at bit.ly/LongmontReverseNotification. Those with landline telephones receive emergency notifications automatically.

How to Talk to Children About Race and Racism

The Longmont Public Library’s Diversity Storytime from 10:30 to 11:30 am on Saturday, January 26, aims to help parents tackle the subjects of race and racism in an age-appropriate, honest, and sensitive way. Longmont’s Showing Up for Racial Justice group will help facilitate an activity and conversation after the storytime. This storytime will be held at 409 4th Avenue and is best for ages 5 and older, but everyone is welcome. No registration required.

Help Improve Travel on Highway 119

Residents who travel on Highway 119/Diagonal Highway between Longmont and Boulder are asked to complete a short survey to help RTD improve bus service and pedestrian and bicycle travel along the route. Learn more and complete the survey at www.sh119brt.com. The survey deadline is January 31.
