In late September, 2018, a 54-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital after being stabbed in the neck and back. Andrew Gallegos was accused of attacking and stabbing the woman.

In an effort to help the woman, a 29-year-old man stabbed Gallegos.

Later, Longmont Police along with emergency personnel found Gallegos in his home. Gallegos had sustained several severe injuries. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died from those injuries.

After conducting an extensive investigation, LPD and the Boulder County District Attorney agree that "the 29-year-old’s actions were reasonable and justified under the circumstances," according to a press release from LPD.

The investigation included witness interviews, a thorough inspection of the crime scene, DNA testing at the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, review of video surveillance, analysis of medical records, examination of phone records and cooperation from the 29-year-old.

As a result of their findings, the 29-year-old will not be charged for his role in Gallegos' death.
