On Monday, June 18 NextLight was named "the fastest internet service provider in the country," by PC Magazine.

"The top spot had been held by Google Fiber in 2016 and 2017, which was knocked into second place this year by NextLight, Longmont’s fiber-optic network," states a press release from NextLight.

According to the press release, “PC Magazine has confirmed what NextLight’s customers already know – that they enjoy a top-quality internet service that is the envy of the country,” General Manager Tom Roiniotis said. “We’re excited to see our community’s achievement recognized and celebrated.”

Currently about 53% of Longmont residents subscribe to Nextlight internet.

Scott Rochat, public relations and marketing specialist for Longmont Power & Communications says, "Our customers are also our owners, so we always want to make sure they have a quality service -- a locally-owned network with ultra-high speed and solid reliability at an affordable price – and rankings like this help demonstrate that they’re receiving it."

"High speed means high convenience. It’s also a point of pride for the Longmont community as a whole, of course, and makes the city even more of a draw for new residents and new businesses," states Rochat.

Longmont's Nextlight internet was one of three initiatives used in the All American City proposal. Longmont is a finalist to become one of the top 10 All American Cities in 2018. The other initiatives include, the community’s work in supporting action for mental healthy and recovery from the flood of 2013.
