to give individuals with warrants, in qualifying cases, the opportunity to resolve them without being arrested or to set a new court date.
The program reduces the jail population and provides more opportunities for law enforcement to prioritize their resources.
Longmont’s Fresh Start event allowed for 35 warrants to be resolved.
District Attorney Michael Dougherty stated, “Eligible individuals left the courthouse with a true sense of relief and an opportunity to get back on the right track. Fresh Start allows individuals a unique opportunity and, at the same time, saves taxpayer dollars. It was wonderful to have every part of the criminal justice system coming together to hold this innovative program. I am very grateful to the staff who gave up their Saturday to be a part of it and I appreciate the trust that the community members placed in us.”
