Tuesday night, Longmont City Council passed the first reading of O-2018-36, A Bill For An Administrative Ordinance Approving The Contract To Buy And Sell Real Estate Conveying 50 East Rogers Road To Habitat For Humanity Of The St. Vrain Valley, Inc. The ordinance would allow the City of Longmont to donate city-owned property at 50 E. Rogers Road to Habitat for Humanity of the St. Vrain Valley for development of affordable, income-restricted homes.
According to communication, "Under a loan of Affordable Housing Funds to Habitat for Humanity approved by Council in 2017, Habitat purchased the lot located just to the west at 42 E. Rogers Road and intend to build up to three units on the lot."
If given the property at 50 East Rogers Road, Habitat For Humanity can develop both lots simultaneously and can build and sell homes to lower-income families.
Thirty years ago, the OUR Center used the location for its Clothing Bank operations, according to communication. After OUR Center moved to a new location, the building on the property was ordered for demolition, which was completed in July 2018.
When city council approved funding for the demolition, city staff "indicated that it intended to bring back a future agreement to donate this lot to Habitat for Humanity for construction of affordable housing, which was in line with council’s directive to consider city-owned surplus property for affordable housing opportunities," states council communication.
The estimated value of the land at 50 East Rogers Road is $130,000.
The second reading and public hearing of this ordinance are scheduled for September 11, 2018.
