The Boulder County I Have A Dream Foundation, a 28-year-old organization, is a well-established support system for students for low-income communities.
The organization starts with students as early as 2nd grade and stays with them through graduating high school and into college. The I Have a Dream Foundation provides $10,000 scholarships that help pay the costs of college to many of the students they have served over an 11 year period.
Of the students involved in the foundation, 90% graduate high school and 85% go on to post-secondary education.
The Longmont Observer sat down with Ashley Keltner, the Director of Volunteers and Annette Taylor, one of the founders of this chapter and currently an ambassador for the organization and talked about the organization, its goals and its programs.
They have afterschool tutoring programs that really need additional volunteers to act as tutors and they need help from the Longmont community to help. They also need mentors to help provide adult attention to these kids where mentors are matched with students for a minimum of a year.
