During the December 3, 2019 Longmont City Council meeting, Regina Cheyney asked council to wave the fee for the CORA (Colorado Open Records Act) request for emails sent from Council Members Polly Christensen and Joan Peck's private email account that concerned official city business.

Mayor Brian Bagley stated that he too was curious what was in those emails and paid for his own request, which copied Cheyney's request, "verbatim," states Bagley.

If a request can be fulfilled within an hour of staff time, there is no charge for the request. Requests that go over that first hour can be charged a $30 per hour fee. The City of Longmont expects to be able to read and redact any information necessary for 40 emails per hour. There were over 1,600 emails and the cost was $1,350.

Once a request has been made and paid for (if necessary) then anyone can make the same request, verbatim, without incurring an additional charge.

Longmont Observer made such a request and is now sharing all of the emails per that request via this link.
