The Longmont Observer has created a series of dashboards to examine the earnings of all full-time and part-time employees working for the City of Longmont. On December 21, 2018, the Longmont Observer obtained this data by requesting salary records from the City of Longmont through the Colorado Open Records Act (CORA).

Our dashboards present information as the City of Longmont provided it, with the exception of annual salary (which we calculated ourselves) and employee names (which we removed before publication), as well as visualization and aggregations created by the Longmont Observer.

The Longmont Observer publishes this data because we believe that it is in Longmont's best interest to know how our tax dollars are spent and to verify that the City of Longmont pays all employees equally, regardless of gender or ethnicity.

Unfortunately, the Longmont Observer is unable to provide analysis and to verify that employees are paid equally.

In an email to the Longmont Observer, Lucienne Petrocco, information/records systems coordinator at the City of Longmont, wrote: "We cannot release gender and ethnicity, as it is information that is maintained because of the employer-employee relationship, and, due to the definition of “personnel files” under the Colorado Open Records Act (section 24-72-202(4.5), C.R.S.), is an exception to the right of inspection, section 24-72-204(3)(a)(II), C.R.S."

If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please let us know by sending us an email to [email protected].

Below you will find additional notes and information on how to use our dashboards.

Notes:

  • Annual salary was calculated by the Longmont Observer using the following formula: Hourly Rate x 40 hours x 52 weeks.
  • The annual salary for part-time employees was not calculated. These listings will display 'NULL' in the annual salary field.
  • PT= Part-Time employment; FT= Full-Time employment.
