Due to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)'s new guidelines issued on March 16, 2020, the City has closed additional facilities in conjunction with declaring a local state of emergency.

Local State of Emergency

The City of Longmont has declared a local state of emergency in response to the global COVID-19 pandemic. This declaration provides additional flexibility to move City resources, funds and staff to better serve the community where it needs it most as the situation develops.

The emergency declaration, which can be authorized by a city manager, may also provide state and federal funding to assist in recovery. Funds from these funding sources are generally reserved for the community and for businesses.

Longmont City Council will ratify the declaration at the City Council meeting on March 17, 2020 at 7 p.m. The City believes timely action will help to minimize the impact to the community.

City Council Meeting on March 17

Due to the latest guidance from the CDC, the public will not be allowed into the Council meeting on March 17 because the Council, plus City Manager and recording staff is the maximum allowed to gather. Council will no longer be considering the Longmont Public Media presentation nor the second hearing on the Special Districts. Both of these items will be postponed. The public is encouraged to submit comments ahead of the meeting online.

Additional City Facilities Closed

On Friday, March 13, 2020, the City closed some of its public facilities and canceled all City-organized programs, community events and community meetings, all community programs, events and meetings organized by non-City entities that are held at City facilities and all community rentals of City facilities, athletic fields and park shelters for public and private events, effective March 13 through March 29, 2020. These closures will be re-evaluated on an ongoing basis, and amended as the situation warrants.

The CDC issued new guidelines on March 16, 2020, which were reinforced during Colorado Governor Polis’ press conference that afternoon. As a result of these recommendations and in conjunction with today’s emergency declaration, the City will be closing additional facilities including:

  • Longmont Civic Center, 350 Kimbark Street
  • Development Services Center, 385 Kimbark Street
  • Longmont Service Center, 1100 South Sherman Street

More information about closures by can be found on the March 13, 2020, press release.

During closures, staff will be working hard -- either remotely or using social distancing recommendations in closed City facilities -- to ensure continued service to Longmont residents, including water, electric, sewer, waste collection, and internet.
