Expected to open in late May, just in time for Memorial Day, Camp Bow Wow is a premier doggy day care facility. Camp Bow Wow is located at 801 S. Sherman St. in Longmont.

Camp Bow Wow's General Manager, Rea Lee Hollis, was inspired to get involved with the company after her children adopted a creative way of asking for a dog. "They emailed me and my husband with all this research that they did on why we should have a Wheaten Terrier." The family fell in love with their dog, Oden, and Hollis decided that she wanted to learn more about the pet industry in general.

Hollis learned about Camp Bow Wow and decided to seek a general manager's position within the corporation.

Hollis has over 17 years of experience as a general manager in the restaurant business and was confident when taking on this position. The Camp Bow Wow company decided that Hollis was a great fit for their new Longmont location.

The Longmont Camp Bow Wow location will offer daily doggy day care, overnight boarding, grooming and eventually training classes. They will also provide a retail section where you can buy treats from Down Dog Snacks and other merchandise that is usually sold by other local businesses.

Camp Bow Wow aspires to be a safe and comfortable doggy day care facility. According to Abby Lubrano, marketing manager, "We want it to be so safe that, you can’t actually do it, but that you could bring your human child here and be safe and comfortable, but for your dog."

All staff at Camp Bow Wow will be pet CPR certified and will be given over 40 hours of pet care training prior to working with the animals. In addition, Camp Bow Wow has 24 hour web-cam coverage for pet owners to view their pet's stay.

Hollis states that Camp Bow Wow offers pet parents the chance to go about their day guilt free, knowing that their beloved pets will be cared for properly and will have a day of fun while receiving love from their caretakers.

The dogs are divided based on weight. These weight classes range from teacup (0-10 lbs), small dogs (11-34 lbs), and large dogs (+35 lbs). The staff ratio is 1 caretaker to 15 dogs.

Camp Bow Wow also supplies space both indoors and outdoors for pets to play and socialize. If a dog needs a break for a while, individual cabins are available for the dog to rest. More luxurious cabins which are equipped with personalized climate control and doggy TV are available as well.

It important to Hollis and Lubrano that Camp Bow Wow be a part of the community. In an effort to do this they have arranged partnerships with Down Dog Snacks and Mom and Muts.

Down Dog Snacks is located in Longmont and provide dog snacks that are organic and observe various dietary restrictions. It is important to Camp Bow Wow that they are able to provide a treat for every dog who visits. "Unless the dog is allergic to peanut butter or apples, we will have a treat for them," says Lubrano.

The second partnership that Camp Bow Wow has made is with Moms and Muts, a pet rescue organization that provides homes for pregnant dogs and her pups. Camp Bow Wow plans to hold several adoption events throughout the year in hopes of giving these moms and pups good, loving homes. It is a goal, of both Hollis and Lubrano, that the Longmont Camp Bow Wow fosters a dog, at the facility, to aid in its adoption.

Each pet is interviewed upon their first visit to Camp Bow Wow to see if they will be a good fit. Interviews can be repeated as many times as necessary in order for the dog to have a chance to become comfortable with the new environment. "We don't discriminate based on breed," states Lubrano.

Longmont's Camp Bow Wow is slated to open late May. They plan to hold their grand opening celebration in early August. Their grand opening celebration will include doggie baths, treats, information on boarding and grooming, as well as, activities for "the humans".
