Coffee with Council is This Saturday
Longmont City Council will host Coffee with Council from 9 to 10 am on Saturday, September 30, at Whole Foods, 1250 S. Hover St. You can talk informally with at least two council members on any topic of your choice, and the coffee’s on us! Council members Finley and Peck are scheduled to attend. Serve Your City on a Board or Commission
There are 22 boards and commissions that advise the Longmont City Council in a number of areas, including historic preservation, planning and zoning, public art, senior services, transportation, and parks and recreation. Strider Glider Race for Preschoolers
New this fall! Preschoolers ages 2-5 can showcase their biking skills at 9:30 am on Saturday, October 7, at Willow Farm Park, 901 S. Fordham Street, during a morning of racing fun. Participants should bring their glider and helmet (required). Learn How to “BeReady”
Learn how to prepare yourself and your family for emergencies. Join the City of Longmont’s Office of Emergency Management for free “BeReady” training. You’ll learn about Colorado natural disasters, sheltering in place, evacuation, and Longmont-specific hazards. The next class will be from 10 to 11 am on Saturday, October 28, at the Safety & Justice Center, 225 Kimbark Street, and registration is required. Register at bit.ly/Lgmt_OCTbr. Longmont’s long known the value of its public power, with $27.3 million saved in electric bills compared to the average Colorado community. Now you can help celebrate it, and get a chance to win a Kindle Fire, a $50 downtown gift card, and other prizes for Public Power Week, October 1-7. Put what you like best about your electric service in a haiku – five syllables in the first line, seven syllables in the second line, and five syllables in the third – or send a photo that shows why you love your public power. See How Longmont is Becoming More Resilient
To share with community members the work being done locally in the project “Resiliencia para todos/Resiliency for All,” the City of Longmont has partnered with other municipalities and BoCo Strong to conduct assessments within our local Latino communities to determine where the gaps exist in connecting services, resources and information. A free screening of the film “Resiliencia para todos” will be from 6 to 7 pm on Monday, October 16, at the Longmont Senior Center, 910 Longs Peak Avenue. Hear a presentation about the work, see the film, and discuss this work with coordinators and community members. This presentation is in both English and Spanish. Call 303-651-8445 to register.
