Last week, Longmont City Council passed a resolution regarding the approval of the Intergovernmental Agreement between the City of Longmont and the Twentieth Judicial District for a victim assistance and law enforcement grant.

The City of Longmont was awarded $17,000 under the Victim Assistance and Law Enforcement (VALE) grant. VALE is incorporated with the Twentieth Judicial District and its function is to fund criminal justice agencies. “This helps maintain the Victim Rights Act and coordinates victim programs and services,” as said in the City Council Communication.

The program is based through the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and currently staffed by a bilingual full-time victim services coordinator and 15 volunteers. With this resolution, the Longmont Police Department Victim Services will be able to provide support, such as: 24/7 crisis intervention, support, advocacy, resources, referral, courtroom advocacy when applicable, and follow-up assistance to crime victims and witnesses.
