A unanimous vote by the St. Vrain Valley School Board on Wednesday night granted the approval to amend the master lease-purchase agreement with Apple, Inc. The amount of the new agreement is $3,315,837.35 per year for three years.

This agreement is in support of the Learning Technology Plan, which was adopted in 2013. Since then the district has "purchased iPads with protective cases, provided professional development, support, repair, and labor through individual bids, contracts, and RFPs [request for proposals]."

According to the memorandum presented to the school board, "Analysis of this proposal determined it is in the District’s best interest to enter into a financial agreement to provide all of these services and equipment because it provides value beyond the existing plan and positively impacts student learning in a largely budget neutral manner over three years."

The agreement includes:

  • Moving entire student and teacher iPad mini fleet to the new 5th generation full-sized iPad
  • Increased access to cutting-edge learning such as Augmented Reality, improved digital curriculum experiences and is a assessment-capable device
  • 3 years of support services
  • AppleCare repair
  • 30 days of teacher professional development
  • Protective cases for each iPad
  • The labor required to prepare, case and asset tag all 22,500 iPads

The memorandum also suggests, "It will significantly improve the start of the school year by reducing administrative workloads for both school and IT support staff, thereby building

capacity to focus on other District initiatives" as another perk.

In addition to approving the amendment to the Apple Master Lease Agreement, the school board approved a resolution that reserves the funds of the agreement as per Section 20, article X of the Colorado Constitution (TABOR).
