On Wednesday night, the St. Vrain Valley School Board discussed proposed changes to school board policy concerning homeless students and students in foster care. This is only a first reading and discussion of the material. Any voting to be done on the subject will be scheduled for a future school board meeting.

According to the memorandum presented to the school board, "Current Board Policy JFABD – Homeless Students has had revisions recommended by the Colorado Association of School Boards to reflect the full implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) in the 2017-2018 school year and to delete references to No Child Left Behind. ESSA has modified numerous provisions of the McKinney-Vento Act; hence the creation of new Board Policy JFABE* and new Regulations JFABD-R and JFABE*-R. These revisions have been reviewed by legal counsel and approved by administration."

Bryan Krause, Executive Director of Student Services was available to answer questions.
